Make Your Own Rainbow

Have you ever sprayed water against the sun on a hot summer day? Or even shined a flashlight into the rain? If so, you see a miniature version of the natural phenomenon caused by the refraction of light called a Rainbow.  While these miniature rainbows aren’t nearly as beautiful as its miraculous reality, the creation of one provides just as much joy. Put your back to the sun and make a mist of water; or even hold a glass of water in the sunlight above a piece of paper, whichever way you choose. No two people will view the same rainbow similarly; and no two rainbows are alike; not even the manufactured ones!  The only similarities are the colors, how they appear and how they bend.  How awesome is that!
To me, life is the same way. Everyone has differing opinions, outlooks, situations, and environments, yet, their basic premise is the same. Everyone needs food and shelter. Everyone needs to feel loved and have all of their boo-boos kissed. It’s engrained in us. So why do we have such a hard time accepting variances? If every human being has the same basic need, whether white, black, blue, yellow, or otherwise, why has there been so much hatred lately?  We are all the same without skin, religion, wealth, physical disabilities, etc. Stripped down, we are nothing more than a sack of bones held upright by the intricate phenomenon called a vascular system.  It saddens me that some people believe that their vascular system, their bones, their food and shelter, is more important than others because of small variances in the human genome.  It’s the same strand.
If we are the same strand, then we all should feel hurt by the injustices of others. For the baby who was left in the car, the woman raped and abused, the American Muslim accused of being a terrorist, or the black man being killed while walking down a white street. None of these should be in a world where you can make your own rainbow.  If we have the abilities to make such wonderful and beautiful replicas of natural phenomena, why is unity so hard? Why is love so hard to do? It shouldn’t be.
Maybe it should start with me. I’ll start my day by turning my back against the sunburn of hatred, anger, fear, and jealousy, and sprinkle a mist of love, care, and concern, everywhere I go.  And as I walk by, people will see the rainbows following me.  And will hopefully be inspired to make rainbows too.
“There is no envy, jealousy, or hatred between the different colors of the rainbow. And no fear either. Because each one exists to make the others’ love more beautiful.” ― Aberjhani
