Star Gazing

So, I just received my bib number for my race which is quickly approaching and causing my anxiety levels to fluctuate daily. I am right at the cusp of accomplishing something that I never thought I could or would ever do.  Its part adrenaline (because, I am that junkie) and part boredom (because being sedentary is just not my thing). However, I’m not an athlete. Matter of fact, I’m quite clumsy and uncoordinated. Somehow, over the past few months, my body has learned to push forward for five plus hours.

Believe it or not, your body will adjust to whatever situation you put it in, as long as your mind has a willingness to do it. It’s like a blind man who has clear vision…he may not ever physically see, but his imagination has stirred his senses as if he did. For instance, my dad always tells me childhood stories of his great uncle who was blind. No matter how quiet my dad was or how he thought his uncle couldn’t see him; this uncle would always catch my dad in the act of doing something bad. My dad was convinced that his uncle wasn’t blind. So, I too, am convinced that my mind can provide me with the abilities to conquer and overcome my inabilities/disabilities with possibilities.

I’m not saying that pigs can fly. But I’m assured if you shot one out of a rocket, it will for a few seconds.  The same thing with us…for moments at a time, we can adopt a mind to imagine and be. We can find innovative ways to do great and wonderful things that makes an impact wherever we are, when we stir our hearts to use what’s possible to accomplish the impossible. There’s room for everyone to make a difference in various ways for others.

Not everyone will be President, a Famous Painter, Author, or Rock Star. Then again, not every star is the sun or part of the little and big dippers. But just as every star glitters, so can everyone shine when they allow themselves to imagine a life without limits. Always look to the sky whenever you feel insignificant. Gaze into the darkness and see the twinkle of each star. Tell yourself that it’s ok to be you.  And then remember that it’s okay to fly.

Hold fast to dreams; For if dreams die; Life is a broken-winged bird; That cannot fly. Hold Fast to Dreams, For when dreams go, Life is a barren field, Frozen with snow. ~Langston Hughes
